Internship Reflection

End of Semester/Internship Reflection

My internship at Cancer Support Community Indiana was a valuable experience that helped me grow both professionally and personally. Throughout my time as a Programs Intern, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks including program coordination, participant outreach, and data tracking. This experience allowed me to apply what I have learned in the classroom to a real-world healthcare setting.

One of the most meaningful parts of my internship was interacting with participants and contributing to programs that support individuals and families affected by cancer. Helping plan and facilitate programs like Family and Friends Game Night and Lunch Bunch showed me the importance of creating a supportive and welcoming environment. It reinforced how impactful community-based programs can be in improving quality of life.

I also developed important professional skills, including communication, organization, and time management. Using tools like Constant Contact and Salesforce helped me gain experience with systems commonly used in healthcare and nonprofit organizations. Over time, I became more confident in my ability to take initiative and contribute to a team.

This experience also helped me recognize areas for growth. I would like to continue building my confidence in leadership roles and speaking up more in group settings. Moving forward, I plan to keep developing these skills as I begin my career in healthcare administration.

Overall, this internship confirmed my interest in working in healthcare and helped me feel more prepared for my future career. It gave me a better understanding of how healthcare organizations operate and the importance of communication, compassion, and adaptability in this field.
